Roger de Jonckheere was born in Brussels in 1926 into a family of sculptors. He himself became a sculptor and was awarded the prestigious Prix de Rome. From 1985 to 1997, Roger de Jonckheere trained Patrick Laroche in the techniques of sculpture, such as marble carving, molding, enlargements and reductions of models. He also uses the pantograph of the sculptors, a measuring instrument used by Auguste Rodin and Carpeaux. All of Roger de Jonckheere's works were hand carved for cities in Belgium.
